Dorycnium hirsutum, or hairy canary clover, is a species of flowering plant in the nitrogen-fixing legume family, Fabaceae. It is a low-growing, mounding, semi-evergreen sub-shrub, averaging 20–50 centimetres in height. Its habit is prostrate, spreading up to 60 cm, with soft, greyish-white, fuzzy foliage. The flowers are white with pink veins, borne in terminal umbels of four to ten flowers from May to July. The fruits are cylindrical, reddish-brown seed pods. The common Portuguese name means 'hairy sausage grass', probably in reference to the seed pods.

Plant in full sun with little or no watering - it is very drought tolerant once established and is ideal for exposed coastal gardens. It is perfect for the water-wise landscape, where it can be used as a ground cover. Its quiet charm makes it a great complement to colourful flowers. It thrives in alkaline soils, is hardy, can be cut back to encourage attractive new foliage and will often self-seed. It is a useful plant for softening the edge of a path, over low stones or in a border.

Dorycnium hirsutum is naturally widespread throughout the northern Mediterranean from Portugal east through Spain, France, Italy, Greece and Turkey, as well as Crete, Corsica and the Balearic Islands.
