---------------------- : ----------------------

A very unusual, sculptural, large succulent shrub with flat, leafless, spineless branches. It grows to 2 metres high and wide, but needs protection from cold and winter rain. It can be fragile when brushed against and will exude a white poisonous latex if damaged, so plant well away from areas that need regular garden maintenance.

A good xerophyte, it will grow well in containers with just free draining natural soil. If planted in the ground, it does not need watering once established. It needs to be kept dry in winter, so is best planted on slopes or in very well drained sandy soils.

It will do well in a frost-free Mediterranean garden, although it is native to Madagascar.
