A compact mounding evergreen sub shrub 30cm tall with very aromatic musky foliage. Small pink flowers through summer and very small, oval leaves give it a thyme-like appearance, but the spicy mustard scent is quite unlike the delicate aroma of thyme. Cat thyme is so called as it seems to be attractive to some cats who will like to brush up against it. The flowers are quite meliferous and attractive to bees and other foraging insects. It should be planted in an open area with plenty of sun and no additional irrigation. Prune spent flowers to just below the flower head after flowering has finished. The plants can be pruned in the spring to promote the appearance of new leaves which will maintain a bushy compact appearance.

Used in homeopathic medicine.
